Program Description:
The English as a Second Language (ESL) Program has been designated for students with little to no knowledge of the English language. The ESL program offers an introduction to the English language and aims to improve the student’s understanding, proficiency, and confidence. ESL students can customize their desired English language pathway with highly qualified English instructors.
In order to enroll in either ESL or EAP, the potential student must write the Oxford placement test, which is administered by our lab technologist, Carley Morrow. We are no longer accepting Duolingo, IETLS, TOEFL.
Each student who is enrolled in ESL takes ESL 11 (Reading), ESL 12 (Writing), ESL 13 (Listening/Speaking), ESL 14 (Structure) and ESL 15 (Lab). They must be successful in each course in order to advance to EAP 101A (Reading/Writing), EAP 101C (Listening/Speaking) and EAP 101L (Lab).
At the completion of each semester, the student will receive an assessment to determine advancement to the next ESL level, into the EAP program, or into a Diploma/Certificate program at St. Clair College.
