St. Clair College will hold its winter convocation virtually on Friday, February 25, 2022, for more than 1,200 graduating students.

St. Clair College will hold its winter convocation virtually on Friday, February 25, 2022, for more than 1,200 graduating students.

It will be the College’s sixth convocation ceremony to be held virtually since spring 2020 when COVID-19 forced the school to stop hosting large, in-person gatherings.

President Patti France applauded the students for their tenacity during one of the most difficult periods in the history of post-secondary education.

“You have the ability, indeed, you have the hard-earned right, to tell all prospective employers that you successfully completed your postsecondary education in the midst of unprecedented difficulties, interruptions, and complications and to assert that you will bring that same degree of expertise and tenacity to every job that confronts you in the workplace,” she said.

The College awarded each of the graduates a pin depicting Gryphon wings for demonstrating “that special trait of single-minded persistence in the face of adversity.”

The Gryphon, a mythical beast from ancient Greece, known for its strength and ability to soar, is depicted on the liripipe the graduates will receive and on the College’s crest. The pin ties into the College’s motto “Rise Above The Ordinary,” France said.

“You have certainly done that during the course of your education, meeting all of your academic expectations and demands. And on top of that you Rose Above The Extraordinary in view of the fact that you completed your education in the midst of a global pandemic that complicated both your lives and your learning environment.”

All sessions can be watched starting at 2 p.m. on this link: Winter Virtual Convocation Ceremony | St. Clair College (stclaircollege.ca)
