Bursary for Students with Disabilities (BSWD)

The Bursary for Students with Disabilities (BSWD) is one of the components of the Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP).

The BSWD is intended to assist students in meeting additional costs of equipment and supplies related to the student's participation in post-secondary education that the student must incur due to their disability.

  • A "permanent disability" for OSAP purposes is defined, as follows:

"A functional limitation that is caused by physical or mental impairment that restricts a student's ability to perform the daily activities necessary to participate in studies at a post-secondary level or in the labour force, and that is expected to remain with the student for the student's expected life."

  • A "persistent or prolonged disability" (PPD) for OSAP purposes is defined as follows:

"A functional limitation caused by physical or mental impairment that restricts a student's ability to perform the daily activities necessary to participate in studies at a post-secondary level or in the labour force, and that is expected to persist or recur over an extended period, significantly impacting the student's daily functioning."

To qualify for this program, students must first apply for OSAP.  Additionally, students are required to schedule a meeting with a Counsellor in the Student Services Office to discuss their eligibility, assess disability-related needs, and outline necessary steps.  This meeting is an essential step to ensure all requirements are met and students receive the support they need.

To arrange an appointment, please call the Student Services Office at 519-972-2727, extension 4226.
