Comprehensive evaluations of circulation, skin integrity, nails, sensation and pressure, is essential for the early detection of underlying issues such as vascular disease, arthritis, neuropathic, metabolic, systemic, or digestive conditions. Students will learn new, Clinical Best Practice Guidelines accepted, non-invasive electrical modalities of treatment and prevention for lower limb conditions such as: ABl's, Vascular Doppler, LOPS, Cold Laser Therapy, Photodynamic Laser Therapy, Extra Corporeal Shockwave Therapy (ESWT) and Electrical Stimulation Therapy. Through theory and clinical practice, students will develop advanced skills in deflecting techniques, cushioning, offloading, and strapping for pain relief. Emphasis is placed on preventative, detailed assessments of high risk, diabetic individuals. Reduction with debridement of Ram's Horn Nail and scalpel techniques for hyperkeratotic tissue above the dermis will be taught and practiced. Ingrown nail prevention and treatment, and routine nail trimming will be practiced as proactive foot health and safe biomechanics promote easy, pain-free movement and improve mobility.
Prerequisites: Basic Foot Care Nurse Certificate and RN or RPN CNO registration in good standing.
