Foot Care is essential to improve the mobility and functionality of the complex foot and to prevent or reduce the risk of ulcers and infections. This course will enable the College Certified Personal Support Worker to practice foot care on children, adults, and the elderly in community and institutional settings. Learn to assess and recognize soft tissue lesions, such as calluses, corns, verruca warts, and Tinea Pedis (athletes' foot). Boney deformities such as bunions, claw toes, hammer toes, mallet toes and nail deformities will also be address. Identify conditions that affect the dermis and function of the foot. An understanding of appropriate footwear to prevent falling or wound development will be discussed and demonstrated. Foot care clients of the Personal Support Worker cannot be diabetic and/or be prescribed blood thinners. This course will demonstrate instrument care, disinfection mandated sterilization. the students are requested to have at least a one-month growth of nails to practice with each other. All equipment and educational material will be provided by the instructor. The second day will include hand-on clinical practice.
