The WSI course is designed to provide candidates with the proper knowledge and skills to teach swimming and water safety while promoting water-safe attitudes in, on and around the water. This course will provide you with instructional knowledge and theories on topics including teaching methods, learning styles, swimming skills, communication, safety supervision, injury prevention and feedback. The course will include a WSI - Skills Evaluation, SWI-Online, SWI-Teaching Experience, and SWI-Classroom and Pool components. Pre-course online work is required when the course is condensed in timeframe. You must provide a valid email address on your registration form to be contacted by your instructor. Please bring your bathing suit, towel, notebook/pad and a pen or pencil to the first class. 100% attendance is required to be eligible for completion.
Prerequisites: One of the following: Red Cross Assistant Lifeguard, Emergency First Aid or higher, Bronze Cross. Be able to perform the water safety skills and strokes to meet the highest level of the Red Cross Swim Kids 10 program. 15 years or older by the last day of the course.
