The nursing simulation complex features state-of-the-art, high-fidelity simulation suites equipped with adult, obstetric, and pediatric simulators. These spaces provide nursing students with immersive, hands-on learning experiences where they participate in both low- and high-risk patient scenarios in a safe, standardized environment alongside their classmates.
All simulation experiences are led by Simulation-Certified Nursing Faculty who facilitate these highly impactful learning experiences. Simulation activities are scaffolded throughout each semester and academic year, progressively increasing in complexity as students advance in their clinical skills and theoretical knowledge. Exposure to simulation begins as early as the first year of the nursing program, supporting students in developing confidence and competence that they carry forward into their clinical placements.
Through simulation-based learning, students develop and strengthen essential nursing competencies such as teamwork, communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving within a safe, low-risk environment. Students practice comprehensive nursing assessments and interventions, work collaboratively to achieve established outcomes, and participate in structured debriefing sessions that promote reflective practice and professional dialogue. Simulation faculty are committed to fostering psychologically safe experiences, ensuring learners feel supported as they explore, learn, and grow without fear of causing harm.
The simulation lab is designed to closely replicate real clinical settings, featuring hospital-style rooms, mock medications, equipment and clinical supplies. This high level of realism enhances the connection to real-world nursing practice.
The Nursing Simulation Complex, including its advanced simulation mannequins and equipment, has been made possible through the generous support of our funders, including The Toldo Foundation, the College Equipment and Renewal Fund (CERF), Frank & Mary Uniac, and St. Clair College capital investments.
Students consistently provide feedback that simulation-based learning is a fun, valuable and confidence-building component of their nursing education:
"We were able to think on our feet (or take the time we needed) to figure out how to respond to the situation in a safe space, but also have fun while doing it. You could see how much thought and creativity the simulation instructors put into each scenario. The instructors were encouraging and supportive and made the experiences enjoyable. I look forward to doing more!"

"Sim Lab gave me some of the most memorable times in my two years here at St. Clair! Lots of laughter but also the ability to safely learn and build confidence!"
