The St. Clair College men's varsity indoor soccer team came home with the OCAA bronze medal after a thrilling week on the pitch.
The Saints were taking part in the OCAA Indoor Soccer Championship in Vaughan, Ont.
In their morning semifinal, St. Clair dropped a hard-fought battle to the Humber Hawks 3-1.
The Saints faced Fanshawe in the bronze medal match and defeated the Falcons 1-0 in a tightly contested game. Fanshawe had defeated St. Clair 4-1 in pool play the day prior.
Patrick Maheux, a defenseman and St. Thomas of Villanova grad, was named a Championship All-Star for his outstanding play throughout the tournament.
The Saints qualified for the tournament after finishing first in their pool with a record of two wins and a tie, defeating Fanshawe 4-0 and University of Laurier Brantford 6-0 while playing Conestoga to an exciting 1-1 draw.
This OCAA bronze is the Saints' first medal in indoor soccer since winning silver in 2017.
Women's team settles for tough fourth-place finish
The St. Clair College women's varsity indoor soccer team ended up finishing in fourth place in Ontario at the OCAA Indoor Soccer Championship.
In their morning semifinal, St. Clair lost a heartbreaker 4-3 to the Centennial Colts. In an exciting back and forth game that was tied 3-3 after regulation the match went to overtime. Neither team scored during the extra time, so the match went to penalty kicks, where the Saints fell 5-4 to lose the match.
The Saints faced the Humber Hawks in the bronze medal match and fate was not on their side once again, falling 1-0 in penalty kicks.
It was a great season for the Saints women's soccer program, winning OCAA outdoor gold – the program's first gold medal since 1987 – and finishing fourth at nationals.
