It was a full team effort by representatives of St. Clair College who together distributed food and books to children and their families as part of the United Way of Windsor-Essex Chatham-Kent's Summer Eats for Kids program.

Throughout the summer, United Way teams up with volunteers at these pop-up food banks, dispersing food items and books to children and families two times a week at three different sites, helping break down transportation barriers by bringing resources directly into communities.

Representatives from the Saints Student Athletic Association (SSAA), Student Representative Council (SRC), as well as College President Michael Silvaggi, joined the United Way outside General Brock Public School in Windsor on Aug. 5, 2025, to hand out about 110 bags of fresh fruit, veggies and non-perishable food items to families in need.

"We continue to address food insecurity in the summer months when school nutrition programs are closed, along with encouraging literacy with free books from our Women United Book Drive," said Rachel Meeke, the corporate relationship manager at United Way/Centraide Windsor-Essex Chatham-Kent.

St. Clair College and its student government representatives have been taking part in the Summer Eats for Kids initiative for five years.

"We value the partnership we've forged with United Way Windsor-Essex Chatham-Kent over the years to help the community in every way we're able," said College President Michael Silvaggi. "Whether it's through our programs to create educational pathways for area youth, or helping provide the necessities to families, we strive to make an impact and improve the lives of area residents to build up a stronger community."

The Summer Eats for Kids program is fully donor-funded, with all monies raised going toward purchasing groceries.

"Our friends at St. Clair College, the SRC and SSAA are a huge part of making this work possible," Meeke said. "Their dedication and commitment to the community through United Way has made a measurable impact on the lives of children and families in our community."

"Thank you for showing your local love!"
