St. Clair College Paramedic students recently dedicated their weekend to serving the Windsor-Essex community through a highly successful 'Fill the Ambulance' campaign.
Students stationed ambulances at the Metro on Tecumseh Road East and Food Basics on Lauzon Road from Nov. 28 to 30, 2025, encouraging shoppers to donate non-perishable goods.
"The Fill the Ambulance food drive is an event organized and led by paramedic students and stands as a powerful example of how compassion, teamwork, and service can truly make a difference for those in need," said Michelle Wielink, a second-year student in the Paramedic program. "Engaging with the public about the cause and our mission to support the community we serve highlights the commitment of St. Clair College students – not only to respond in times of emergency, but to show up for the community in a meaningful, supportive, and proactive way."
The initiative was a resounding success, resulting in a large volume of donations collected directly for the Downtown Mission.
A team of students recently drove the St. Clair College ambulance to the Mission to hand-deliver the items.
"The program not only supported those in need but also allowed students to engage directly with the community they will soon serve," said Ryan Cloutier, a professor in the Paramedic program who helped deliver the food items to the Mission.
Wielink said the annual event is a point of pride for her and fellow students, and a win for the community.
"I have been a part of this event both years I've been in the paramedic program, and I love to see our students come together under the guidance and organization of our Paramedic Club President to really show up for our community in this way," Wielink said.
