This is the first of 3 clinical rotations. Learners will be provided an opportunity to observe and assist with ultrasound examinations while under the direct supervision of a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer. Emphasis will be placed on professional interactions with patients and members of the health care team, assistance in patient care, application of ultrasound physics and instrumentation and the use of various scanning techniques to obtain optimal image quality. Students are expected to actively observe and participate in sonographic examinations and practice the fundamentals of obtaining patients medical history, correlating relevant diagnostics and documentation of ultrasound findings. Students are also expected to engage in the necessary daily maintenance within the Diagnostic Medical Ultrasound Department as part of the sonography team.
