This course provides a comprehensive examination of the professional obligations of paralegals as set out in the Paralegal Rules of Conduct established by the Law Society of Upper Canada. The course thoroughly reviews paralegal professionalism, duties to clients, to the administration of justice, to licensees and responsibilities to the Law Society. Students examine issues involving proper conduct in regards to fees, retainers, practice management, and in their role as advocates. Students explore personal value systems and their interrelationship with established professional obligations so as to develop strategies and best practices for ethical and principled decision-making.
