Course Credit

This is the second in a series of three courses which utilize an office simulation model so that the students can practically develop and apply paralegal skills and manage a practice. The course builds on concepts of client file systems maintenance by examining conflict checking, the preparation of retainers, and the tracking of fees and disbursements. Issues relating to conflict and potential conflict of interest are explored and strategies utilizing LSUC rules and guidelines are developed to help identify and minimize risk of future problems. In addition, the course examines how and when a paralegal may withdraw representation of a client. Through role-play exercises, students continue to develop interpersonal skills and professionalism. A reflective journal is maintained in this series of courses.
