Students will explore the fundamentals of verbal, non-verbal and written forms of communication relevant to the practice of the OTA & PTA. An emphasis will be placed on the interpersonal communication skills between health care professionals and patients. Communication with different patient populations including a variety of scenarios such as patient fear, anxiety and psychiatric conditions, etc. are addressed. Students will explore differing elements of the patient record and the ethical and legislative responsibilities relating to the OTA & PTA profession. Different methods of record keeping will be explored including SOAP, DAR and electronic record methods and requirements. Professional writing skills will be addressed including report writing and exercise prescriptions as they relate to the OTA & PTA.
