The safe operation of lifting equipment and the proper use of rigging hardware are important factors in the safety of all persons in the Industrial Mechanical Trade and safety will be the core of this course. The proper use, inspection and storage of lifting and rigging equipment will be emphasized during the duration of this course along with the practical applications of the principals of mechanical advantage and leverage. The use of the universal hand signals used to perform safe hoisting operations will be studied in the context of an update or review for the students. This course is designed as a review for Industrial (Millwright) Mechanic tradespersons but would provide useful skills to tradesperson of other trades. Participants will examine in depth the preventative maintenance practices of maintaining overhead lifting equipment, their components and structures.
