Organic Chemistry III | St. Clair College
Course Code
CHM527
Course Credit
6

This is an advanced level course in organic chemistry that includes a laboratory component. The lectures will continue covering reactions of some functional groups, but will also encompass more complicated reactions and some spectroscopy. Functionality to be covered includes amines/amides as well as carbonyl substitution/condensation reactions. The student will be introduced to Ultraviolet Spectroscopy (UV) and mass spectroscopy (MS) from the organic chemist's point of view. Infrared (IR) and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectroscopy from previous organic courses will be utilized as well. The laboratory section will be less rigid in its approach, allowing the student to be much more involved in the experiments. The lab atmosphere is intended to be similar to the employment environment.
