The student will learn to compound non-sterile products, including calculating the correct amount of each ingredient and using the correct compounding equipment. Practice may include compounding lotions, creams, and ointments as well as various solutions. In the lab section of the course, the students will learn how to use torsion balances and electronic balances to accurately weigh ingredients to compound. The student will be expected to calculate, measure and weigh in all relevant systems and to calculate and convert dosage determinations and extemporaneous weights and volumes in metric, apothecary, and imperial systems. Proper and timely cleaning and maintenance of compounding equipment will be stressed.
