This course is designed to introduce the student to the basics of metallurgy. Some of the topics include: structure of metals, characterization, and formation of alloys, hardness, failure and deformation of metals. Extraction, Phase Equilibria and Phase Diagrams of, ferrous and non-ferrous alloys are discussed. Different aspects of heat treatments are explained in detail. These topics are explored through classroom lectures, discussions and lab experiments. The student is also required to write technical reports of the experiments.
