Wines have played a role in the diets, customs, and belief systems for thousands of years. This course introduces the student to wines and how they are produced. The cultural and social role of wine at celebratory events and wines as part of differing cultures will also be examined along with the social aspects related to potential problems. Cultural and aesthetic qualities associated with tasting, selecting, presenting and serving wines are explored. The historical contribution of viticulture of the various wine regions will be presented to enhance the discovery of wine appreciation. Relevant legal regulations related to the purchase and the service of wines is also considered. The social and cultural aspects and potential problems to the individual and society will also be examined.
