This course provides students with the foundation to design a basic group fitness class with a variety of group exercise formats using common training principles and current safety standards. Different styles of group fitness classes will be studied. Emphasis is placed on the importance of music, fundamental choreography, and cueing methods. Primary components of group exercise, including principles, recommendations, and guidelines of warming up and stretching, cardio/respiratory training, muscular conditioning and flexibility, are explored.
