The concepts of being a member of a health care profession, professional associations, and regulatory bodies are introduced. A historical perspective of dental hygiene is provided. A primary theme is governance issues including risk management, regulation of dental hygiene, and practice standards. Information access, evaluation of information, and scientific writing are also emphasized. Students will be required to use an e-mail address and the Internet.
