This course provides an introductory overview of pharmacology with specific emphasis on the medications used in the practice of dentistry. The following topics will be introduced:, basic pharmacology and therapeutic terminology; principles of drug action (pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamic); drug laws and prescriptions; analgesic agents; local anesthetics and vasoconstrictors; anti-infective agents; topical antiseptics and oral rinses; anxiolytics agents; local hemostatic agents; emergency drugs in the dental office and oral effects or implications of common medications taken by dental clients
