This course provides a foundation for Level II Dental Assistant patient care. Students will receive specific practical information that they will apply to the clinical setting. Content includes documentation and maintenance of patient records in compliance with relevant and current legislation / regulations. Basic embryology, oral pathology, and common medical conditions will be examined to support student discernment of specific patient findings. The five components of the "Dental Process of Care" will be emphasized: collection of assessment data, dental diagnosis, treatment planning, dental care implementation, and post treatment evaluation of patient care. Within the lab component of the course students will be provided the opportunity to gain knowledge of the required cognitive and psychomotor skills necessary to fulfill their role in preparing and handling dental restorative materials utilized in contemporary dental practice.
