Battle of the Gingerbreads: Let the voting begin | St. Clair College
Tuesday, December 15, 2020
Let the voting begin.

It’s down to the final 16. Earlier this month, the Downtown Windsor Business Improvement Association (DWBIA), in partnership with St. Clair College and the Windsor Star, launched the Battle of the Gingerbreads, a gingerbread house-making competition open to people of all ages. Between December 1 and December 13, entries came in from all over the region, from Grinch-ified houses to a penguin’s paradise.

“It’s been delightful seeing the creativity and the excitement around the traditional gingerbread build,” says DWBIA Chair Brian Yeomans. “The entries are some of the most impressive and thoughtful I’ve personally ever seen.”

The 16 finalists, which were selected by a panel of judges for their overall appearance, creativity, difficulty, precision and consistency in theme, will be featured on windsorstar.com. Over the course of the next 10 days, the community is encouraged to vote and select their top three.

Prizes are Downtown Windsor gift baskets filled with goods and products from downtown retailers and businesses valued at $600, $400 and $200 respectively.

“To be able to provide a safe and virtual space to continue this beloved tradition is something we’re quite proud of,” says St. Clair College president Patti France. “We’re all so excited to see which designs the community selects as the winners. It won’t be an easy task.”
