Tecumseh, ON – The St. Clair College Men’s Baseball team opened their season Saturday with a 7-1 loss but rebounded nicely turning the score around for a 7-1 win in the second game of the doubleheader with Durham College (Oshawa).

In the opener the St. Clair bats were quiet generating only 3 hits in the contest off Durham starter Alec Brown (Oshawa, ON) who went the distance. The Saints were able to open a 1-0 lead in the 3rd inning when Darian Gray (Kingsville, ON/Kingsville District) scored from 2nd base on a Durham fielding error. But Durham answered with a single in the 5th inning before getting 3 runs in each of the final two frames to put the game out of reach. Micah Harris (Cottam, ON/Essex District) took the loss for St. Clair on the mound in five innings of work surrendering 3 earned runs on 4 hits.

In game two the Saints were up to the task scoring 5 runs in the 3rd inning to take command and never looked back. St. Clair starter Garik Godard (Belle River, ON/Belle River District) only faltered slightly in the 4th inning yielding Durham’s lone run. He spread out 4 hits while striking out 8 batters in five innings of work before being relieved. The Saints tacked on a pair of runs in the 6th inning to complete the scoring. Kevin Dion (Newmarket, ON) and Brendan Renaud (Amherstburg, ON/St. Thomas of Villanova) each had a pair of hits to pace the St. Clair attack. Dion and Roberto Duncan (Panama City, Panama) had the big blows at the plate driving in 5 RBI’s between them.

St. Clair College Baseball Win Thriller to Split with Humber

(Tecumseh, Ontario) - The St. Clair College Men’s Baseball team finished their opening weekend 2-2 after a doubleheader split Sunday afternoon at Lacasse Park in Tecumseh. After a 4-0 loss in the first game the Saints erased a 3-run deficit in the 7th inning before a walk-off 6-5 win in extra innings.

In the opening loss St. Clair could only muster 3 hits in the game against Humber starter Rory Pollard (Brampton, ON) who pitched 6 innings for the win. Kevin Dion (Newmarket, ON), Kyle Gagnon (Belle River, ON/St. Anne) and Darian Gray (Kingsville, ON/Kingsville District) each had singles for the Saints with Evan Ferguson (Windsor, ON/St. Joseph’s) taking the loss on the mound in 5 innings of work while surrendering 4 runs on 4 hits.

For the second day in a row the resilient Saints rebounded for a game two win but this time it came by way of the comeback. After taking a 2-1 win lead in the 4th inning St. Clair gave up 2 runs in 5th and 6th innings and trailed 5-2 before their final turn at bat in the 7th. The Saints quickly loaded the bases pushing across the tying runs to force extra innings. By rule both teams employed the International Tie-breaking format placing a runner at 2nd base to start the extra frames. Each team threatened to score by moving those runners to 3rd base but neither could not break through until Saints first year outfielder Darian Gray (Kingsville, ON/Kingsville District) punched a hit to centerfield to score the go-ahead run by Ryan Holmes (Essex, ON). Saints starter Taylor Pappin (Brantford, ON) gave up no earned runs in his 6 innings as his team faltered defensively with 6 errors. Michael Beale (Windsor, ON/WF Herman) came in to pitch 3 innings of relief and collected the win only giving up a hit and a walk over that span.
