Big Win for Men's Soccer

(Windsor, Ontario) - The St. Clair men's soccer team earned a huge home win on Saturday afternoon taking down the undefeated Redeemer Royals by a score of 4-3.

The Saints got off to a great start as Tyrone Mulder (Merlin; Chatham-Kent) scored on a header off a corner kick in the 2nd minute. Redeemer bounced back quickly making it 1-1 in the 7th minute. Mulder put the Saints back up 2-1 on a nice strike in the 18th minute. Korede Adepitan (Toronto; NACI) put St. Clair up 3-1 on a nice effort in the 23rd minute. The scoring slowed down for a bit but Redeemer tied the match up early in the second half scoring on two rebounds after a couple nice saves by Saints keeper Haiden Gelinas (Windsor; St. Joseph’s) in the 55th and 58th minutes. St. Clair got the winner by Jagger Schives (Tilbury; ESPC) after a mad scramble in the 73rd minute. The Saints managed to hold on for the win despite playing a man down for the final 12 minutes.

The Saints had 19 shot attempts compared to 14 for the Royals. Each keeper had 6 saves while St. Clair had 8 corner kicks compared to 3 for Redeemer.

With the win the Saints are now 3-4 on the season while Redeemer fell to 4-1-2. The Royals were ranked 8th in the OCAA.

Women's Soccer Tie Redeemer Saturday

(Amherstburg, Ontario) - The St. Clair women's soccer team earned a hard fought point on Saturday afternoon as they played the Redeemer University Royals to a 2-2 draw at home in Amherstburg.

The Saints got off to a great start as Cassie Nicholas (Windsor; Holy Names) scored a nice goal in the 5th minute. Redeemer responded quickly scoring a weak goal in the 7th minute the bounced by the Saints keeper. The Royals took the lead once again on the 50th minute but St. Clair bounced back quickly on a goal by Cassie Rose-Medeiros (London; John-Paul II) in the 55th minute.

St. Clair controlled most of the play throughout the game but had trouble finishing on their attempts. The Saints had 27 shot attempts compared to 12 for the Royals. The Redeemer keeper had a great game making 15 saves compared to 8 saves for St. Clair. The Saints had 8 corner kicks while the Royals had 5.

With the tie the Saints are now 2-3-2 on the season while Redeemer moved to 1-4-2.

St. Clair College Baseball Move to 10-4 with Seneca Sweep

(Tecumseh, Ontario) – The St. Clair College Men’s Baseball team took a pair of games Saturday afternoon in mercy fashion over Seneca College (North York) at Lacasse Park by scores of 11-1 and 14-1.

In the first game Saints starting pitcher Micah Harris (Cottam, ON/Essex District) spread out 7 hits and yielded just one run over his six innings of work while striking out 3 batters with only 1 walk. St. Clair’s Kevin Dion (Newmarket, ON) along with recent addition Tommy Cheng (Hong Kong, China) each had two hits with Brendan Renaud (Amherstburg, ON/St. Thosas of Villanova) contributing 3 RBI’s and a hit. St. Clair fell behind 1-0 in the top of the 1st inning but responded with a pair in the bottom half and never looked back. The Saints added singles in the 2nd and 3rd innings but added 3 in the 5th but capped the mercy with 4 runs in the 6th.

In the second game the Saints put up 8 runs in the bottom of the 1st inning and 6 runs in the 3rd inning which was all the scoring they needed. Seneca rallied for a run in the 5th but it was not enough to extend the game. St. Clair starting pitcher Evan Ferguson (Windsor, ON/St. Joseph’s) gave up 1 run on 5 hits while walking 2 and striking out 4 batters. Cheng and Dion each had 2 hits again in the game with both scoring 2 runs to pace the Saints offensively with Dion driving in 3 runs.

St. Clair College Men's Cross Country Take 2nd Title of Season

(King City, Ontario) – The St. Clair College Men’s Cross Country team won their second title of the season in as many starts after outpacing the field Saturday at the Seneca College Invitational in King City, Ontario.

Saints 2nd year runner Rick Nepomuceno (Windsor, ON/Holy Names) once again led the Men’s team who finished in 5th Place after completing the 8km course in a time of 28:45 against a total of 97 runners. Other finishers for the St. Clair Men were Andre Tomasian (7th Place, 29:14), Thador Tekhli (9th Place, 29:45), Tyler Tofflemire (18th Place, 31:00) and Jack Porter (36th Place, 33:05).

The St. Clair Women finished in 8th Place out of the 11 OCAA teams registered in the 6km race and were led by Beth Horrobin (Wallaceburg, ON) who ran a time of 27:26 which was good enough for 18th position. The remaining members of the Lady Saints brigade included Nicole Desrosiers-Michienzi (29th Place, 28:09), Jessica Hodgkin (30th Place, 28:14), Aryana Cirino (32nd Place, 28:22), Hannah Cirino (35th Place, 28:50) and Samantha Boussey (42nd Place, 30:10) in a field of 68 runners.

Women’s Softball Continue Strong Play with Sweep at Humber

(Etobicoke, Ontario) – The St. Clair College Women’s Softball team swept a doubleheader from Humber College Saturday afternoon at Connorvale Park in Etobicoke by scores of 10-1 and 3-1. The Saints now sit at 13-3 and remain alone at the top of the OCAA standings.

In the first game St. Clair moved ahead 2-0 in the 2nd inning but put the game out of reach in the 5th with 5 more runs. After scoring 3 runs in the 7th, the Saints only allowed a single run by the home side in the last half. Saints pitcher Olivia Elliott (Oakville, ON) took the win on the mound in the opener throwing a complete game allowing a single run on 9 hits while striking out 7 Humber batters. Alexandra Senft (Windsor, ON/ Walkerville Collegiate) and Rya Cowan (Lasalle, ON/Sandwich) each had home runs for the Saints while Kim Moroun (Belle River, ON/Belle River) added 3 hits in the lopsided win.

The Saints needed an extra inning in the game two win after giving up a 1-run lead when Humber tied the game at 1-1 in the 6th. The Saints scored two in the 8th and used a double play to end the contest after Megan Lumley (Windsor, ON/Holy Names) caught a fly in right field and gunned down a Humber runner at the plate. St. Clair starter Sara Stiller (Windsor, ON/Holy Names) pitched all 8 innings and earned the victory after surrendering just 1 run on 8 hits but struck out 6 batters Catcher Lauryn Schram (Windsor, ON/St. Joseph's) had a key RBI hit for St. Clair in the win.

Men’s Baseball Host Perfect Weekend after George Brown Sweep

(Tecumseh, Ontario) – The St. Clair College Men’s Baseball team posted 6-4 and 5-3 victories over George Brown College (Toronto) at Lacasse Park Sunday afternoon pushing their record to 12-4 in the OCAA standings.

In the first game the Saints were quickly ahead 3-0 after the 2nd inning but George Brown cut the deficit to 3-2 in the 3rd. St. Clair pushed their advantage to 4-2 in the bottom half before George Brown tied the game at 4-4 in the 6th. The Saints were able to push across a pair of runs on a double by Max Ayarza (Bocas del Toro, Panama) in their half of the 6th which proved to be the decisive blow. St. Clair starter Miguel Cienfuegos (Laval, QC) was dominant recording 14 strikeouts in his 7 innings of work only surrendering 2 earned runs on 6 hits and a pair of walks. Garik Godard (Belle River, ON/Belle River District) and Kevin Dion (Newmarket, ON) each had 2 hits apiece for the Saints.

Game two had a similar feel with the Saints jumping ahead 3-0 by the 3rd inning and saw George Brown respond with 3 runs in the 4th to tie the contest. But St. Clair once again came up big in the 6th inning with a pair of runs to close the scoring. Saints starting pitcher Taylor Pappin (Brantford, ON) went the distance giving up 2 earned runs on 6 hits and a walk but was able to fan 8 batters. Dion, Kyle Gagnon (Belle River, ON/St. Anne) and Lucas Renaud (Amherstburg, ON/General Amherst) each swatted a pair of hits to lead the Saints offensively.
