St. Clair College Men’s Basketball Take 2nd Place at George Brown Tournament

(Toronto, Ontario) - The St. Clair College Men’s Basketball team travelled to Toronto and earned a Silver Medal at the 40th Annual George Brown Tournament. The Saints defeated La Cité (Ottawa) by a score of 113-63 Friday night and advanced to the semi-final game on Saturday against the CCAA’s 7th ranked team in Redeemer University College (Ancaster).

After trailing Redeemer 54-43 at halftime St. Clair mounted a comeback to in the third quarter setting up tight game down the stretch. With just seconds remaining and down a point the Saints gained an inbounds possession on the sideline in the frontcourt. St. Clair guard Jermaine Lynch (Windsor, ON/JL Forster) passed to Lance Drummonds (Hamilton, ON) on the right block who in one motion caught the ball and hit the game winning shot. Redeemer could not get a quality shot off with the remaining time giving the Saints an improbable 93-92 win and a berth in the final.

In the Championship Game host George Brown held a 32-25 lead at halftime over the Saints but the game would stay close until the final minutes. St. Clair fell 77-66 succumbing to foul trouble late but deficits in 2nd chance points (31-15) and bench points (31-14) hurt their chances against the nation’s 12th ranked team.

St. Clair’s Jermaine Lynch and Lance Drummonds were both named to the Tournament All-Star team for the efforts.

St. Clair Men's Volleyball Upset Top Ranked Georgian

(Hamilton, Ontario) - The St. Clair men's volleyball team had a successful weekend in Hamilton taking part in the Mohawk College Mid Season Invitational coming away with a 3-0 record.

On Friday night the Saints defeated Durham College 3-0. Game scores for St. Clair were 25-20, 25-21, 25-22. Durham is in 3rd place in the OCAA East Division.

On Saturday St. Clair took down the top ranked Georgian Grizzlies 3-0 by scores of 25-16, 25-19, 26-24. Georgian was ranked 1st in Ontario and 2nd in Canada and are 9-0 in regular season play.

St. Clair defeated Canadian Mennonite University from Manitoba 3-0 in their second match on Saturday to wrap up the tournament. Set scores for St. Clair were 25-17, 25-20, 25-20.

The Saints are currently 5-4 on the season and ranked 8th in Ontario. St. Clair will continue their regular season schedule next weekend on the road in the GTA against Sheridan and Humber.

St. Clair College Women’s Basketball 3-1 in Montreal

(Montreal, Quebec) - The St. Clair College Women’s Basketball team had a successful weekend in Montreal compiling a record of 3-1 at the Dawson College Winter Classic Tournament. The Lady Saints defeated Champlain College Lennoxville 62-55 Friday afternoon and later that evening were 57-51 winners over Trois-Rivières. On Saturday morning St. Clair downed Vanier College (Montreal, QC) by a score of 58-47. The Saints suffered their only loss to host Dawson College who is Canada’s #2 ranked team by a score of 83-55 Saturday night.
