Three new womens basketball recruits.

(Windsor, Ontario) - The St. Clair College Women’s Basketball team continue to stockpile talent for the 2018-19 season welcoming local players Hayley Firr and Caleigh Chauvin to the fold along with Tyler Carroll from Toronto.

Carroll is a North Toronto Collegiate Institute graduate where she earned two MVP awards over the past three seasons to go with a Toronto District Regional Championship in 2016-17. She played club ball for the North Toronto Huskies program leading them to an Under 19 Junior Women’s Ontario Cup Championship in 2017. Carroll is fairly new to the sport having spent many of her formative years playing soccer and rugby but with her strong stature will surely make an immediate impact. The 5’11” forward will provide a needed physical presence at both ends of the floor for the Saints while enrolled in the Fitness and Health Promotion program academically.

Saints Head Coach Andy Kiss said about Carroll, “We are thrilled to bring Tyler aboard as this our first recruit from the GTA during my time. We hope this is the beginning of more players coming from that area to experience the fabulous opportunity of attending school and playing basketball at St. Clair. We discovered Tyler at a Toronto area Elite Showcase Event in May and I was glad to see her in action up close. She is an excellent complement to the talented stable of guards in our program and Tyler will compete immediately for major playing time at the forward spot.”

Firr is a 5’5” guard and competed locally for the very strong Holy Names High program in addition to 7 seasons with the Valiants Club program. While at Holy Names she was a 3-year starter helping her team to a pair of city championships and a SWOSSAA title on their way to an OFSAA appearance for the Knights. No stranger to success she won 3 Ontario Cup Championships with the Valiants before a season with their JUEL Prep team. But the dual sport athlete concentrated on soccer with the Eastside Kickers program the last few years before making the decision on basketball at the next level. Firr will be pursuing a diploma in St. Clair’s Early Childhood Education program.

Coach Kiss identified about Firr, “Hayley adds additional depth at the guard position and she is a very good, physical and athletic perimeter defender. Her defense will also be an asset in our full court pressure defense.”

Chauvin stands 5'10" and is an Essex native looking to fill a depth need at forward for the Saints program. She began her club travel basketball with the Kingsville Class but moved over to the Windsor Valiants competing for two seasons with the JUEL Prep team. Chauvin finished off with two more years of club ball with the Tecumseh Saints competing very well in Division I. The Essex District High School product helped her team to four WECSSAA finals and a pair of Championships. In grade 11 she was an honourable mention All-City performer but was named a 1st team WECSSAA selection in her final year in 2017. Chauvin will be taking the Pre-Health Science program in the classroom at St. Clair.

Kiss complimented about Chauvin, “Caileigh plays with a high compete level and had 3-point range in high school. She also comes from a strong high school program at Essex and Caileigh will be a nice addition to Saints.”
