War of 1812: Path to Peace | St. Clair College

This course will explore the politics, events, and historical and contemporary consequences of the War of 1812. Themes and interpretations will be examined through selected text, film, handouts, journals, classroom discussion, and reflective assignments. Topics will include the interpretation of the war from different perspectives, military and international relations, cultural history, historical geography, the role of First Nations people and women in the war. Study will also include the social, economic, and political impact on the Canadian Identity from today's perspective. The course will conclude with a discussion about the relevance of the War of 1812 - a pivotal moment in Canadian history or a forgotten border dispute?
