1970’s: Fire Rips Through St. Clair Library

As we continue to celebrate our 50th anniversary we’re taking a look back at a devastating fire that destroyed the St. Clair library.

On Sunday, November 18, 1973 the blaze ripped through the College’s new library.

It caused an estimated $600,000 in damage with 28,000 books and periodicals and $300,000 in teachings aids destroyed.

The library reopened in September 1974.
