Truck & Coach/Heavy Equipment Operator Technicians
Local trucking firms and several Community employers in Windsor/Essex County and Chatham/Kent County have indicated the need for skilled individuals in the Truck & Coach and Heavy Equipment Technician professions.
Industry stakeholders including 401 Truck Source, Transit Windsor, CG Pearson Buses, Carrier Centers, Stevenson Transport, Tatro Trucks Ltd. and Chatham-Kent Hydro have all expressed concern over the prospects of future labour shortages in these fields and have agreed to partner with St. Clair College to promote and train individuals to meet the need for more qualified and skilled workers for these trades.
St. Clair College has received approval & funding from the Ministry of Training Colleges & Universities to run a Pre-Apprenticeship Truck & Coach, Heavy Duty Equipment Repair Technician Certificate Program in 2012. This is a brand new opportunity! Participants in this program will complete the Level 1 Truck & Coach Apprenticeship in-school Curriculum as well as 70 hrs. of “hands-on” Heavy Duty Equipment Repair combined with a 12 week industry work placement to meet anticipated labour shortages and address local industry's needs.
The benefits of this placement are two-fold: trainees benefit from real world exposure; industry benefits by reducing the training time for new employees and are paid a wage subsidy to offset training costs.
