This course builds skills related to the applied use of the internet and computing technology in a networked environment. A strong focus will be on the development of intermediate level word processing concepts utilizing MS Word. Students will complete labs and assignments that reflect current business requirements for professional office assistants in the workplace and begin to integrate data between MS Office applications. MEDICAL TERMINOLOGY I

This course is designed for the applied health professional, and is one of 2 parts. It begins with medical word parts - prefixes, suffixes, root words, and combining forms. The structure and function of each of the body systems will be studied along with its associated terminology, pathological conditions, clinical tests, surgical procedures, laboratory procedures, and abbreviations. Emphasis will be placed on correct spelling and the ability to decide if a word makes sense in context. 3 units of credit. Text extra.

PHARMACOLOGY & SAFETY SYSTEMS

This is an introductory course in Pharmacology and Safety Systems for Office Administration - Health Services students. The student will learn commonly used medications and their actions and basic side effects. Specific practical knowledge of the role of local pharmacy facilities regarding public interaction and education, narcotic abuse, processing scripts from doctors and the unique relationship with doctors' administrative personnel will be discussed. In addition, students will gain an understanding of safety systems commonly used in health settings. Students will learn about the systems designed to help workers understand and exercise their legal right to know about hazardous materials in the workplace. Students will also be introduced to the specific characteristics of biological hazards and the circumstances where worker exposure can occur. 2 units of credit. Text extra.
