INSTRUCTING/FACILITATING ONLINE COURSES

This course reviews the roles of an online facilitator, offers examples of current practice and preset guidelines and strategies for effective practice in online facilitating. Because the definition of the facilitator’s roles and activities must be understood within a specific context, the focus is on online facilitating for the post-secondary adult learners. ASSESSMENT OF ONLINE LEARNING

This course will discuss how the online environment offers new ways of learning and offers the opportunity to develop new methods of assessment that can promote more effective learning. The main issues that must be addressed when planning new methods of assessment and feedback will be discussed as well as current innovative practices which exploits the potential for collaborative learning offered by the online environment. Practical aspects of electronic marking, including the use of reviewing toolbars, digital drop boxes, the creation of an effective file management system, and custom email organization will also be covered. 2 units of credit. $244.70 ($164.70 + Online fees $80)

Creating an online course is different in many ways from developing a comparable course for use in more traditional environments. This course is designed to help the potential online teacher identify these differences, and in so doing create a course that will be most effective and valuable for the students. Participants will also have the opportunity to explore the innovative possibilities for formatting and delivering online material. They will produce lesson material combining web and text resources using basic pedagogical concepts to ensure the effectiveness of the material produced and post them to the Blackboard web management system. 3 units of credit. $327.05 ($247.05 + Online fees $80)
