Dr. Strasser Carries the Olympic Torch!

St. Clair College President, Dr. John Strasser, was proud to represent the students, staff and alumni of the college, as he took his place as an official Olympic Torchbearer on December 23, 2009, as it made its way through southern Ontario.

Dr. Strasser carried the torch for 300 meters as it paraded on Front Road North - Hwy 20 in LaSalle.

“It’s quite an honour to be part of this historic tour of the Olympic torch through our area,” Dr. Strasser proudly exclaimed. “Each leg of the torch relay will pass quickly, but the memory, to carry it in the name of students and staff both past and present connects us all to this international event, will last a lifetime!”

Dr. Strasser was able to share this special moment with staff and students who showed up to cheer him on. Present during his slow trot with the torch were his family members, especially his grandchildren, who provided the loudest cheers!

A surprise torchbearer, who was two positions past Dr. Strasser, was “Mr. Hockey” Gordie Howe. Dr. Strasser was able to spend some time with this hockey legend, sharing stories and even helping him put his uniform on for the big event. After the event was over, Dr. Strasser was proud to proclaim, “Being two persons down the line, passing the torch to Gordie Howe, puts me in the record books as having the second assist on Mr. Hockey.”
