Child and Youth Workers often find themselves advocating for children in times of severe budget cuts and limited financial and human resources. The needs of children and youth are paramount and must be met in spite of very realistic funding issues.
To provide students with an opportunity to experience the process Child and Youth Workers go through in stretching the dollar and making more out of less, they were presented with a challenge.
The challenge to our CYW students was to take a paper clip and barter to get the best trade to support youth in the Chatham Kent community. The students then brought their final item in to the college and held a silent auction.
Child and Youth Worker Accelerated program raised over $2,600 from their "paper clip" project. With the money collected, student representatives purchased warm pyjamas, slippers, teddy bears and other bedtime items for children and adolescents as part of one of the Christmas campaigns for children.
The message from the Child and Youth Worker class is that all children deserve to have a stress-free safe, warm and restful sleep.
