Students interested in the growing health care sector will find exciting new opportunities with the launch of three new applied health programs at St. Clair College in September 2011.
Diagnostic Medical Sonography(Ultrasound),
Respiratory Therapy and
Cardiovascular Technology have been approved by the Ministry of Training Colleges and Universities and will be launched this September.
"These programs have been designed to provide very specialized training for people who want exciting and in-demand careers in the health care sector," says Waseem Habash,
Associate Vice President, Academic Operations. "Everything is in place to launch these programs for September. Students will be amazed at the high quality of our new labs in the Centre for Applied Health Sciences as well."
The new 100,000 sq. ft. facility has been under construction for the past fifteen months and will be ready for students in September. Specialized labs have been outfitted with the most state-of-the-art
equipment on the market today for the three new programs as well as other health science programs including Dental Hygiene, Dental Assisting, Medical Laboratory Science, Nursing, Pharmacy Technician and Paramedic.
"The entire facility has been designed exclusively to provide the most accurate industry-simulation training available," says Habash. "From the ultrasound simulation labs, cardio trend mills,
to the digitally-equipped dental labs, students are giong to feel like they are learning in a real-life setting."
These highly specialized programs are not widely available throughout the province. Diagnostic Medical Sonography, or better known as Ultrasound, is only the second program of its kind to be offered in Ontario.
Respiratory Therapy is a 3 year advanced college program that provides knowledge and practical hands-on training so graduates can work in a number of critical care settings including the OR, emergency rooms, community and long term care agencies.
Cardiovascular Technology is a two year diploma and provides students with the expertise to work in a variety of cardiac care settings as a cardiac technologist. Career opportunities include teaching hospitals, ambulatory health care services, private cardiology and
diagnostic centres and cardiac rehabilitation centres. There are only two other institutions in the province to offer this specialty program.
Each of these programs requries the applicant to have a number of science courses as pre-requistites including chemistry, physics and biology. Grade 12 Math is also required.
Applications for these new programs are being accepted now through
