St. Clair College Women’s Softball 1-1 against Seneca

(Windsor, Ontario) – The St. Clair College Women’s Softball team (9-3) lost 6-5 but recovered for a 5-0 win against Seneca College (2-8) on a blistering hot afternoon at the campus diamond Saturday.

In the opening game the visitors from Seneca opened the game with a run before St. Clair took a 3-1 lead into the 2nd inning. But Seneca answered with 3 more runs in the top of the 2nd but the Saints tied it 4-4 with a run of their own. Seneca seized the lead for good in the 4th inning with 2 more runs. The Saints could only muster a single run in the 5th inning down the stretch but had several chances stranding 5 runners in the final three frames. Olivia Elliott (Oakville, ON) took the loss on the mound for St. Clair exiting the game after 4 innings surrendering 8 hits, 5 earned runs and a walk but struck out 6 batters. Jenna Pierce (London, ON) pitched well in relief for the Saints giving up no runs in 3 innings with just 2 hits and 2 walks to go with a strikeout. Madisyn Clark (Leamington, ON), Michaela Rilett (Windsor, ON/Kennedy), Allison Telfer (Windsor, ON/FJ Brennan) and Nicole Giacchini (Windsor, ON/Assumption) each had two hits for St. Clair. Telfer added 3 RBI’s in the loss.

St. Clair was more composed in the second game getting a remarkable pitching performance from starter Sara Stiller (Windsor, ON/Holy Names) who gave up only 1 hit in a complete game shutout adding 6 strikeouts with a pair of walks. The Saints scored single runs in the 1st, 2nd and 4th innings along with a pair in the 3rd inning. Rookie centerfielder Madisyn Clark continued to swing a hot bat with 3 singles to go with a run scored and a stolen base. Sarah Bondy (Amherstburg, ON/General Amherst) and Alexandra Senft (Windsor, ON/Walkerville) each had a pair of hits in the 10-hit attack for St. Clair.

The Saints host a doubleheader at the campus diamond on Sunday against Conestoga College (Kitchener) with game times of 1:00pm and 3:00pm.

St. Clair College Men’s Baseball Split at Fanshawe

(London, Ontario) – The St. Clair College Men’s Baseball (8-2) team split a doubleheader in London Saturday afternoon with Fanshawe College (5-5) but still remain atop the OCAA standings. The Saints were upended 3-2 in the opener but responded with a mercy shortened 13-0 win in the second game.

In the first game St. Clair scored a pair of runs in the 6th inning to take a 2-1 lead but surrendered 2 runs in the bottom of the 7th to Fanshawe in a walk-off loss. Carson Burke (Tecumseh, ON/St. Anne) had a pair of singles with Matt Bondy (Amherstburg, ON/General Amherst) driving in both runs for the Saints with two doubles. St. Clair starting pitcher Kyle Breitner (Mississauga, ON) suffered the first loss of his 5-year OCAA career giving up 2 earned runs on 7 hits and a walk but struck out 7 batters.

In the second game St. Clair took 1-0 lead in the 1st inning and added 2 runs in the 4th inning. The Saints completed the mercy by exploding for 5 runs in both the 5th and 6th innings. Taylor Pappin (Brantford, ON) earned his 3rd victory of the season on the mound for St. Clair giving up only 3 hits and 3 walks in his 6 innings of work but let no runs across while striking out 2 Fanshawe batters. Bondy had a perfect game at the plate with 3 singles and a double while driving in 5 runs for the Saints. Burke and Brendon Renaud (Amherstburg, ON/ St. Thomas of Villanova) each added 3 hits apiece for St. Clair in the lopsided win.

The Saints travel to Macomb CC in Warren, Michigan for an exhibition doubleheader on Sunday.

St. Clair College Women’s Softball Win Big but Drop Next

(Windsor, Ontario) – The St. Clair College Women’s Softball team (10-4) were 9-1 winners over Conestoga College (6-6) but could not keep the momentum going in the next game and lost 2-0 on another hot afternoon at the campus diamond Sunday.

The Lady Saints quickly scored in the 1st inning of the opening game but were tied 1-1 by the visitors from Kitchener in the 3rd inning. St. Clair had a big bottom half with 5 runs to put the game out of reach and added 3 more runs in the 5th inning for good measure. Saints starter Sara Stiller (Windsor, ON/Holy Names) went the distance for her 5th win of the season spreading out 7 hits and 4 walks and only gave up 1 earned run. She was able to strike out 4 Conestoga batters for her 2nd win in consecutive days for St. Clair. Sarah Bondy (Amherstburg, ON/General Amherst) had 3 hits including a double with 3 RBI’s but got help from Alexandra Senft (Windsor, ON/Walkerville) and Jenna Pierce (London, ON) who each had a pair of hits.

In game two Olivia Elliott (Oakville, ON) went unrewarded and took the loss on the mound for St. Clair after throwing a complete game 5-hitter and surrendering just 2 earned runs with 5 walks with a pair of strikeouts. Conestoga scratched a run in the 2nd inning and tacked on an insurance run in the 7th inning to complete the scoring. The Saints had a good opportunity in the 6th inning with two runners aboard and 1 out but could not get the key hit. Bondy had two more hits in the second game for the Saints who only managed 6 total for the game.

The Saints host 4 games next weekend at the campus diamond with doubleheaders on Saturday against Mohawk College (Hamilton) and Sunday against Humber College (Etobicoke).
