(Scarborough, Ontario) – The St. Clair College Cross Country team competed in their third event of the season Saturday at the Centennial College Colts Invitational Meet held at their Ashtonbee campus in Scarborough with both the men’s and women’s team coming away with a podium finish.
The St. Clair Men’s team finished with a Silver Medal out of 13 schools led by rookie runner Gavin Wesley (Kashechewan, ON) who finished in 10th Place in a time of 27:28 over the 8km course. He was followed closely by teammates Andre Tomasian (12th Place, 27:45) and Tyler Jones (13th Place, 27:46). Other finishers for the Saints Men’s team were Justin Folkeringa (32nd Place, 29:26), Nicholas Cull (36th Place, 29:37) and Chase Squire-George (55th Place, 32:08) in a field of 94 runners.
The Saints Women’s team also reached the podium with a Bronze Medal finish out of the 10 OCAA teams in a field of 74 runners. St. Clair was led by Beth Horrobin (Wallaceburg, ON) who finished in 7th place in a time of 24:22 in the 6km race. Other finishers for the Saints included Hannah Cirino (18th Place, 26:01), Nicole Desrosiers-Michienzi (26th Place, 26:36), Aryana Cirino (29th Place, 27:11), Jessica Hodgkin (35th Place, 27:34) and Samantha Boussey (41st Place, 28:14).
This was the final meet for St. Clair College in preparation for the OCAA Provincial Championship being hosted by Fanshawe College at the Fanshawe Conservation Authority in London on Oct. 28th.
(Oshawa/North York, Ontario) – The St. Clair College Women’s Softball team went a perfect 4-0 on the weekend in the GTA after taking a doubleheader Saturday at Durham College (Oshawa) and then winning another pair on Sunday at Seneca College (North York). With the wins St. Clair finished the regular season with a 20-4 record atop OCAA standings claiming the pennant.
The Saints defeated Durham Saturday by scores of 11-5 and 16-2. In the opening game pounded 16 hits including 2 home runs from Megan Lumley (Windsor, ON/Holy Names) who took one over the fence and added another inside the park round tripper as part of her 3-hit game. Sarah Bondy (Amherstburg, ON/General Amherst) also had 3 hits including a double and a triple for St. Clair who got a complete game win from pitcher Olivia Elliott (Oakville, ON) on the mound. In the second game the Saints put up another 18 hits with Lumley going 5 for 5 with another home run and a triple. Alexandra Senft (Windsor, ON/Walkerville) and Jordan Taylor (Lasalle, ON/St. Thomas of Villanova) each also had 3 hits in the game for the Lady Saints with Sara Stiller (Windsor, ON/Holy Names) earning the win on the mound.
On Sunday St. Clair bested Seneca with scores of 7-3 and 11-0 to round out their season. Stiller pitched to the win but got help from Elliott and Allison Telfer (Windsor, ON/FJ Brennan) in relief. Bondy, Taylor, Hayley Pearce (Windsor, ON/Vincent Massey) and Madisyn Clark (Leamington, ON) all had two hits in the opening game. In the final game Elliott pitched the opening 5 innings for the win with Stiller closing out the final frame in the mercy shortened affair. Bondy clobbered 4 more hits with Jordyn Clark (Leamington, ON) adding 3 hits of her won for the Saints.
St. Clair now awaits their opening round game time on Friday at the OCAA Provincial Championship hosted by Humber College at the Brampton Fairgrounds.
(Toronto, Ontario) – The St. Clair College Men’s Baseball team (14-4) swept a doubleheader at Christie Pits in Toronto over George Brown College (3-15) Saturday afternoon by scores of 7-2 and 11-0. However, the Saints games against Seneca College were postponed due to rain and poor field conditions on Sunday. With the wins St. Clair has hold of 1st place in the OCAA pennant race.
On Saturday in game one St. Clair got a complete game win from Taylor Pappin who struck out 12 batters and gave up only 2 runs on 4 hits. Kevin Dion (Newmarket, ON) had three singles and an RBI to pace the Saints offensively.
In game two the Saints scored 7 runs in the opening inning and cruised to the mercy shortened 5-inning win. Garik Godard (Belle River, ON) had two singles and double with 3 RBI’s for St. Clair. Micah Harris (Harrow, ON) surrendered only 5 hits while striking out 4 batters in 5 innings of work.
St. Clair will await a decision on the makeup games with Seneca before getting ready to host the OCAA Provincial Championship Tournament Oct. 20-21 at Lacasse Park.
