St. Clair College Basketball Split with Sheridan

(Windsor, Ontario) – The St. Clair College Women’s Basketball team has won four in a row in OCAA West Region league play thanks to a 70-64 outcome over Sheridan College (Brampton) Sunday afternoon at the SportsPlex. The teams were fairly evenly matched coming in and the game proved to be the same. With a 16-14 lead after the opening quarter St. Clair used a 15-3 run in the early part of the second quarter to create separation holding a 39-26 advantage by halftime. The teams played dead even (14-14) in the third quarter but Sheridan made their run in the fourth coming with 5 points at 56-51. However, the Saints were able to hold on the down the stretch for the win. St. Clair scored 18 second chance points in the game and got 26 points from their reserve players as opposed to just 11 for Sheridan.

Shannon Kennedy (Windsor, ON/St. Joseph’s) led the Saints with 16 points to go with 5 rebounds and 4 steals. Rookie St. Clair guard Logan Kucera (Chatham, ON) had a double-double scoring 14 points and added 10 rebounds. Marissa Mara (Sarnia, ON) had a fine shooting day making 3 triples on her way to 13 points for the Lady Saints.

Sheridan’s Brianna Stewart (Brampton, ON) scored a game high 23 points in the loss.

St. Clair College Badminton Smash Well in London

(London, Ontario) – The St. Clair College Badminton team competed in their 2nd event of the season when they travelled to London for the 28th Annual Fanshawe College Invitational this past weekend.

Rookie Saints player Hendry Andkilde (Tecumseh, ON/Tecumseh Vista Academy) placed second in Men’s Singles losing in three sets for the ‘A’ Flight Championship match. 3rd year player Queenie Quintanilla (Windsor, ON/St. Joseph’s) was also a finalist in the ‘B’ Flight of the Women’s Singles event. Andkilde paired with Peter Najem (Leamington, ON/Cardinal Carter) and advanced to the quarter-finals in the ‘A’ Flight of Men’s Doubles. Corah Stephenson (Tilbury, ON) and Morgan Grant (Thamesville, ON) were semi-finalists in ‘C’ Flight of the Women’s Doubles event for St. Clair.

St. Clair will next compete at the George Brown College Open in Toronto Dec. 9-10.
