Women's Soccer Signs Three Top Local Recruits

(Windsor, Ontario) – The St. Clair College Department of Athletics and women's soccer program is pleased to announce signing of three top local recruits to Letters of Intent for the 2016-17 season. The women that will be joining both the outdoor and indoor programs are Alexis Provost, Melanie Jubenville and Marissa Gabriele.

Provost, a native of Windsor, Ontario, is currently finishing up her high school diploma at Riverside Secondary School. An outstanding overall athlete, Alexis has been a member, and captain, of the basketball, volleyball, and soccer teams, as well as a Student Parliament Executive for the past four years. The central defender has been recognized as Female Athlete of the Year. She has played OYSL and WOYSL level soccer for several years with the Eastside Kickers, and was able to place 1st overall in the Indoor Ontario Cup Finals while playing one season with the North London Galaxy. Provost has been accepted to the Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program.

Jubenville is also a Windsor native and is currently attending St. Joseph's Catholic High School. She has been involved in various sports throughout her life. She has been playing competitive soccer since the age of 9. She currently plays for the U98 Eastside Kickers girls' soccer program. Melanie is a midfielder but is capable of playing various positions. She also competes in various other sports in high school, including soccer, cross country, basketball and track and field. Jubenville has been accepted to the Occupational Therapist Assistant/Physiotherapist Assistant program at St. Clair's Thames Campus in Chatham.

Marissa Gabriele, from Belle River, is currently attending Belle River District High School. The forward/midfielder has an extensive soccer background at the club level. She played for the North London Soccer Club for 8 years where her team was named the WOYSL Champions 5 years in a row. She then moved on to the North London Galaxy which was a member of the L1 Ontario league for 4 years. Marissa also spent some time in Michigan playing for the Michigan Gators and Michigan White Eagles. In 2011-2012 she tried out for the All-Ontario Program and made it to the final cut which was down to the top 30 females in Ontario. Gabriele also had a great deal of success at the high school level. She was the captain of Nobles senior team from 2014-2016 and led them to the SWOSSAA Championship in 2013 and 2014. In 2014 the team went on to win the OFSAA Silver medal. She was named to the WECSSAA All Star team in 2015. Gabriele has been accepted to the Pre-Health Sciences program and with plans to enroll in a health science program at St. Clair in 2017-2018.

St. Clair head coach Steve Vagnini is looking forward to adding these three players on the team next year. "We are extremely excited to have the opportunity to coach these players. Adding their talent level will give us the ammunition to bring us to the next step for our program, which is an OCAA Provincial Championship" stated Vagnini.

St. Clair finished the regular season with a record of 9-1 in the OCAA West Division and tied for 1st place in women's outdoor soccer. The team went on to earn an OCAA Bronze Medal at the Provincial Championships, which was their first medal in 16 years. The indoor team qualified for the OCAA Championships as well but did not bring home a medal this season after winning the gold last year.
