(Windsor, Ontario) – The Saints Women’s Basketball team got back on the winning track with an 81-62 victory over Niagara College (Welland) Saturday afternoon at the SportsPlex after dropping their Friday night game to Mohawk College (Hamilton) by a score of 74-47. The Saints played with purpose building a 22-11 lead after the opening quarter and only faltered slightly in the 2nd quarter allowing Niagara to close to within 40-34 at the halftime break. St. Clair opened it up in the 3rd quarter outscoring the visitors 27-12 cruising in the 4th quarter to the final score. The Saints held a decided 43-25 advantage on the boards which equated to 14 second chance points. St. Clair also shot the ball extremely well from the field (49%) and the free throw line (15 for 16, 94%) to help themselves in the win.
The Men’s Basketball team dropped their record to 4-2 after falling 93-80 to Mohawk College (Hamilton) Friday night at the SportsPlex. Their luck continued to run out with a loss to Niagara College (Welland) Saturday afternoon (90 – 82). The Saints came out well staking themselves to a 30-21 lead after the opening quarter and after the teams traded a low scoring 2nd quarter were still ahead 44-34 at halftime. But Canada’s 9th ranked team would not be held down forcing the pace creating chances at the free throw line and foul trouble for St. Clair. Niagara held an advantage in free throw points (25-16), points off turnovers (32-22) and points off the bench (52-29) but also outscored the Saints 56-38 in the second half. The lone bright spot statistically for St. Clair was 3-point shooting where the Saints made 6 to Niagara’s 1.
