(Ancaster, Ontario) – The St. Clair College women's and men's indoor varsity soccer teams had a successful tournament this past Saturday at the Sheridan College Invitational. The event was hosted at Redeemer University College in Ancaster.
The St. Clair men brought home the gold medal by defeating the Sheridan Bruins 1-0 in extra time. The Saints had beaten George Brown 2-0 in the semi final earlier to earn their way into the gold medal game. In round robin play, St. Clair went 3-0 to finish first in their pool by defeating University of Toronto-Mississauga 1-0, Fanshawe 5-0 and Centennial 1-0.
The St. Clair women earned the silver medal after falling to the Sheridan Bruins by a score 2-1 in the Championship game. The Saints had defeated George Brown previously 2-0 in the semi final to play in the Championship game. In round robin play, St. Clair went 2-0-1 to finish first in their pool by drawing University of Toronto-Mississauga 1-1, and defeating Fanshawe 2-1 and Centennial 1-0.
Both of the Saints teams will next be in action when they travel to Toronto to compete in the OCAA Regional Championships on Monday, February 29th at the Ontario Soccer Centre. Each team must finish in the top two in their pool to advance to the OCAA Championships at Redeemer University from March 18-19th.
