(Windsor, Ontario) – For the third year in a row, St. Clair College has provided sponsorship money to high school FIRST Robotics teams in the region with a $1,000 per team donation totaling $17,000.

FIRST is an international organization that promotes science, technology and innovation to elementary and high school students in a unique competition format where teams of students build robots to compete in regional, national and international competition. Up until four years ago, the Windsor-Essex region had just one FIRST team at Sandwich Secondary School in LaSalle. Since that time, with the help from organizations in the community such as WETech Alliance and Centerline in Windsor, there are now 17 teams in the area, including a team from Chatham-Kent.

St. Clair College has hosted the elementary school competition, LEGO Robotics since 2013, and played host to a community competition in November 2015. The kick off to the 2016 competition year was also hosted by St. Clair with more than 200 students, their mentors and teachers being on hand to receive their kits and watch the unveiling of this year's competition, "Stronghold". The Regional Great Lakes competition takes place at the University of Windsor April 7 - 9, 2016.
