Saints End Mustangs Reign and Take CCSA National Championship
Oshawa, Ontario - The St. Clair College Women's Softball team won their first ever National Championship this past weekend in Oshawa defeating the University of Western Ontario (London) 2-1 in dramatic fashion with a walk-off hit in the bottom of the 7th inning on Sunday afternoon. The incredible upset of 4-time defending National Champion Western completes the full set of medals for St. Clair at this tournament who won silver in 2014 and bronze in 2013.

The Saints finished Pool Play on Saturday morning in 2nd place with a 2-1 record after dropping a 4-3 decision to Western. In the cross-over quarter final Saturday afternoon they outlasted the University of Regina 3-2 scoring the winning run also in the bottom of the 7th on a Mackenzie Noah (Thamesville, ON) RBI single. Advancing to the semi-final game on Sunday morning St. Clair survived a see-saw battle with the University of Saskatchewan prevailing 10-7 and moving them to Gold Medal final.

In the Championship game St. Clair scored in the 3rd inning to tie the game 1-1 and the teams played scoreless until the bottom of the 7th when eventual winning pitcher Allison Telfer (Windsor, ON/FJ Brennan) singled with 1 out. Coach Doug Wiseman quickly substituted in pinch runner Sydney MacPherson (Essex, ON) and following a Sierra Johnston (Amherstburg, ON) sacrifice bunt the winning run was in scoring position on second base. Sarah Bondy (Amherstburg, ON) played the hero with a sharp hit to left field scoring MacPherson who narrowly head first slid under the tag for the winning run setting off a plate celebration of Saints players and coaches.
