LSS Canadian Swim Patrol

ROOKIE, RANGER, & STAR Patrol are the 3 components of the Canadian Swim Patrol. This program is designed to develop 3 categories, H20 Proficiency, First Aid, and Rescue. Candidates will build their skills, have fun, and prepare themselves to continue in the aquatic field of lifesaving.

Prerequisite: 9 years of age & ability to swim 100metres continuously. This course is not a prerequisite for Bronze Star.

BRONZE STAR & BFA/CPR 'A'

Candidates will review the skills of the Canadian Swim Patrol program. Participants develop problem-solving and decision-making skills individually and in partners. Candidates will also receive Basic First Aid and CPR training with this course. Final Exam will be held on the last day of class.

Prerequisites: 12 years of age & ability to swim 100m continuously
Recommended: Completion of LSS Canadian Swim Patrol

BRONZE MEDALLION & EMERGENCY FIRST AID WITH CPR 'B'

Candidates develop physical fitness, decision-making and judgment skills. Students learn both tows and carries, and release methods in preparation for challenging rescues of increased risk. Stroke efficiency and endurance are developed in a timed swim. Resuscitation skills include rescue breathing, CPR and obstructed airway management for adults and children. Candidates will also receive Emergency First Aid and CPR 'B'. Final Exam will be held on the 11th class unless otherwise specified.

BRONZE CROSS & STANDARD FIRST AID WITH CPR 'C'

Bronze Cross teaches the difference between lifesaving and lifeguarding, the principals of emergency procedures, and teamwork. An introduction to safe supervision in aquatic facilities, emergency procedures, use of bystanders and rescue equipment will be discussed. Spinal injury management and other demanding rescue techniques are also taught. Candidates will also receive Standard First Aid and CPR 'C' training with this course. Final Exam will be held on the 11th class unless otherwise specified.

Finished your Bronze Cross or NLS? Distinction is a challenging aquatic award that focuses on demanding aquatic emergency situations and is designed to develop advanced water rescue skill and knowledge.

LSS Lifesaving Fitness

Lifesaving Fitness teaches the importance of physical fitness in lifesaving. The award is designed for participants of all ages who learn how to measure, monitor, and maintain personal physical fitness for lifesaving emergencies.

Prerequisites: 30 years of age or under or medical approval.

NATIONAL LIFEGUARD – POOL OPTION (NLS)

Recognized as the standard measurement of lifeguard performance in Canada, N.L.S. education is designed to develop a sound understanding of lifeguarding principles, good judgment and a mature responsible attitude towards the role of the lifeguard. Leadership, communication, and team situations will be emphasized. Upon completion of this course, candidates will be legally eligible for employment in a lifeguarding position. Final Exam will be held on the 11th class.

Prerequisites: 16 yrs, Bronze Cross & Standard First Aid with CPR 'C'.
